External ventricular drainage is one of the most common and important life saving procedures performed and subsequently managed in neurosurgical intensive care unit. This device is inserted for the purpose of CSF pressure monitoring and facilitate CSF drainage when needed, guiding the brain targeted resuscitation in critically ill patients. There are currently limited high quality evidence to support the management of EVD, however several consensus guidelines have been published to guide us for care of patient with EVD. In this presentation, we will discuss several effective management points related to the care of EVD in our clinical practice looking from the aspect of indication, contraindication, troubleshooting and managing the complications arise.
