1 July 2021
1045 – 1130
Learning Objectives
- Recognition of traumatic brain injury in children
- Prevention of secondary brain injury
- Early recognition of raised intracranial pressure
Synopsis of Workshop
Traumatic brain injury is one of the common presentations to the Emergency Department. Children are not small adults. Although the principles of management are the same, there are special considerations, especially for younger children. Children tend to deteriorate rapidly, and it is difficult to assess the extent of brain injury, especially in younger, non-verbal children. Delay in recognition and treatment can contribute increased morbidity and mortality. The learning objectives of this PBLD include recognition of traumatic brain injury in children, resuscitation and prevention of secondary brain injury as well as early recognition of raised intracranial pressure.
